I recently worked on this contemporary to be built Webster Groves, Missouri for a friend of mine. The lot has its challenges and the future homeowner is on a tight budget, but it makes the project all the more interesting working within tight parameters.  One of my favorite project types, quality residential design, at an affordable cost.  This is the only way we’re going to get away from the brick veneered entry facade / vinyl sided homes we’ve seen popping up around our city.

This piece is constructed using baltic birch plywood, and 3/8″ square steel tube.  The contemporary table is designed to illustrate the beauty of a utility product that is typically used   for  high end cabinet boxes.  The built up exposed plywood edge, creates a  mass  that is then subtracted from to create a hidden niches…. for magazines, remotes, etc and an open table top display.  The tabletop void, was designed to allow for personalization of the furniture by the purchaser and can be left open or covered over with a glass insert when required.

This piece is constructed using reclaimed pine planks, 11 gage steel rod, and 1″x3″ 16 gauge steel.  The contemporary shelving unit was with designed with the idea in mind of creating a storage rack hung from  support wires.  The wires are designed to not only carry the weight of the individual shelves, but also acted as dividers for books, wine bottles,  and objects of varying sizes.    The individual shelf heights are fully adjustable and more can be added upon request.

This is a contemporary home design I pu together  for a couple that owns some lake front property west of St. Louis Missouri.  The goal of the project was to create an open home that responded appropriately to the surrounding  site and functioned programmatically per the clients unique lifestyle.  This all had to be done while keeping the maximum budget of $500,000 in mind.

This is my home and personal space for exploration… It has been my hobby and  one of my passions (besides my beautiful wife and daughter of course) for the past three years. The goal was to purchase a run down piece of property in the city with good bones and renovate it in a tasteful contemporary way, while respecting some of the original details that make these city homes unique.  This all had to be completed  on a budget, yup….i don’t have a ton of cash, just work ethic, and a patient wife.   You can’t find quality construction in most new homes today, but you can find it inexpensively all around St. Louis City.  All these buildings need is a little love, and a team of people that know what their doing.  You see a lot of flippers doing work all around, its a shame what they do to these spaces.  They put the least amount of time and effort into them to make them look presentable enough for sale.

This found object piece was created using a music stand, bike spokes, a veggie grill rack, springs, and acrylic line.  The only guideline set while searching for components was that they all had to be of a similar finish, material, and scale.  This contemporary light, is a one of a kind, and its been carried around from dwelling to dwelling for the last eight years now…..It would be tough to get rid of, but i guess if i sell it i could always make something new….and maybe buy a newer full suspension mountain bike…..I love  gadgets!
